Current Status:

Sept. 14/09 -  At the request of Lake Superior Discovery Place (LSP) City Council passed a resolution asking the Waterfront Development Committee to study our 2009 report and report back by March 2010 as to whether the concept is a good fit with their master waterfront development plan.
 
February 2009 - Lake Superior Discovery Place produced a Lake Superior Place Business Plan & Implementation Strategy in 2008/09.

Lake Superior Discovery Place has engaged the services of an independent consulting team to research and prepare the business plan and implementation strategy.  Donna Bain Smith from Bain Smith Consulting is the local consultant lead on this project.  Read their initial Concept Brief here.
 
We require and are proactively soliciting financial support and community partnerships in order to complete its Business Plan and Implementation Strategy.
 
Purpose of the Business Plan

General:
To examine and determine the feasibility and long-term social, environmental and economic sustainability of Lake Superior Place, based on community interest and the potential for partnership engagement.
 
Specifically:
  • To proactively consult with the community and establish the level of interest in the four cornerstones of Lake Superior Place.
  • To identify key partners and financial support.
  • To draft a visual facility diagram that encompasses partner activities and functions.
  • To establish revenue stream matrixes for each major component and the overall project.
  • To examine and validate the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the four cornerstones
  • To identify capital and operating cost estimates.
  • To undertake an estimate of economic impacts and summary of community benefits;
  • To deliver a conceptual facility and site design in three dimensional form;
  • To create a communications and marketing strategy for the implementation of the project, and
  • To prepare a project implementation strategy with estimated timelines for the future.
  • To identify actual or potential conflicts or constraints that could affect LSP, and consider strategies to deal with them.

  Other Achievements:

  • Working group Committees established with meetings regularly
  • Presentations made to various community groups and to the City of Thunder Bay's Waterfront Development Committee
  • Website designed and populated
  • Incorporated as a Not-For-Profit in June 2007
  • Discussions with potential partners initiated and ongoing
  • Bylaws drafted for the corporation
  • Established an initial Board of Directors structure and invested a temporary Board
  • Annual General Meeting on November 29th, 2007 elected permanent Board
  • Membership campaign established - "Friends of Lake Superior Place"
